Seaford Medical Practice

Medical education

Our practice has continuous training for its entire staff. Additionally, we provide placements for staff who are specifically in a training role. With regard to medical staffing this may mean your GP can have someone sitting in with them, who may be a student or a doctor who wants to learn more about general practice. If your doctor has an extra person sitting in with them about which you feel uncomfortable, please tell your doctor as soon as possible in your appointment.

As part of the trainee doctors’ learning and assessment your consultation may be videoed.  Your permission will always be asked for before the camera is used.  Additionally your consultation may be discussed with other medical staff.  You may register your objection to this being carried out.

Qualified doctors training in general practice and planning to become a general practitioner are called GP speciality trainees (GPStRs). Our GPStRs  will offer appointments, telephone advice and visit patients.

Doctors on other training programmes may also work in the Practice.  These other doctors may be on the Foundation Programme or Broad Based training programme and are described below:

  •  Prior to becoming a GP speciality trainee, doctors may work in General Practice as a foundation doctor.  These are fully qualified doctors who are working both in general practice and hospital posts to widen their experience.  These foundation doctors will offer appointments and telephone advice.
  • Broad based training is a new training programme, which aims to prepare doctors for working more effecitvely in the modern day NHS.  These doctors are interested in caring for patients requiring care in and out of hospital.

To be a training practice, we need to take time to support our trainees. Additionally, we are visited by an external team of Trainer  inspectors on a regular basis to ensure we continue to meet the standards expected of a Training Practice.

If you have any comments on our role as a training practice, please feel free to inform our Practice Manager.
